Defying Gravity (Taylor's Version)
They're burning all the witches even if you aren't one. Welcome back to the Daily Debrief.
Witches, evil queens, good wives + lion cubs,
Welcome back from break! I finally saw Wicked — the latest adaption of a timeless tale that’s always been about perspective.
📌 Here’s a quick timeline if you aren’t well-versed:
1900: Frank L. Baum publishes The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
1939: The Wizard of Oz hits the big screen, albeit slightly less wonderful now…
1995: Gregory Maguire flips the narrative with his novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West.
2003: Wicked: The Musical takes Broadway by storm.
This carries us to the present — Wicked hits theaters in 2024, showcasing the world of Oz on the big screen once again. While the 1939 film gave us Dorothy’s perspective, this adaption lets us step into the perspective of the so-called villain: a promising young Elphaba.
